What have you been wearing on stage? Anything new you particularly like?

Micky James (@themickyjamesmusic)
This past year I was fortunate enough to be asked to support Joe Perry of Aerosmith on a short tour in the states. On that tour I decided to wear a two piece mustard suit.

I was very inspired by Terry O’ Neill’s images of David Bowie in the early 70’s when he wore his vibrant yellow suit. I would also say Marc Bolan was an inspiration to this particular look as I wanted to channel some of his glam in the boots and eye makeup up.

Do you collaborate with anyone? A stylist? A friend?

micky
On this particular look, there was no collaboration. I purchased this suit a while back for a video shoot and never had the opportunity to really put it to use on a tour and build a look around it. I'm glad it finally came to life.

Do you make any special pieces?

micky
I have collaborated with friends and stylists in the past on shoots and on of my tour outfits but I usually tend to put the pieces together myself.

Where do you find stage clothes? Any fav shops?

micky
I’ve collected so many pieces over time that the outfits sort of build themselves. I’ve collected a lot of different looks from thrift and vintage stores in NJ and PA. There are some great little vintage shops in New Hope, PA. 13 Vintage & Night Bird Vintage are great spots that I try to shop at as much as I can.

Where does your sense of style come from? Any special sources of inspiration?

micky
Well, I've naturally developed a taste for the theatrical and aspired to become a performer from a young age. In my music and my personal style, I've always been inspired musically and aesthetically of a bygone era of rock n roll. Artists that were so transformative in their look such as Bowie, Jagger, Lou Reed- influenced me greatly when developing my stage outfits.
