Stage Clothes with Jyoty

We talk stage clothes with Jyoty β†’ being a style chameleon raised by the πŸ’ƒ floor, collecting Prada America's Cups, saving customs for that 'big' moment, and not caring about trends, because what feels good looks good.

What have you been wearing on stage? Anything new you particularly like?

Jyoty @jyoty
I look totally different for every single show. I think my style identity is that I'm a chameleon and a different character every single show. One day a tracksuit, the next day a mesh dress.. and then a leather suit.

Night time look for JACQUEMUS at PFW

I think one thing that some folk look forward to is when I wear football kits – I tend to do that at least twice a month and it's always kits I think are super pretty but often also of countries I have love for in some sort of way.

Do you collaborate with anyone? A stylist? A friend?

jyoty
I style myself 85% of the time but on occasions I do work with stylists. In the UK I tend to opt for Cimmie Dhanda (@cimmiedhanda), in Australia I worked (and will be working) with Lexi Josie (@grit.au) and in New York I'll be working with Juan Zenon (@juanzenonstyle)!

Do you make any special pieces?

jyoty
I have yet to explore the world of customs, part of me is saving that for a really big moment because I hate the thought of something being worn only once. I'd rather wear stuff from my wardrobe of loaned pieces via stylists. After the gig these can go to someone else (or back to the showroom) - you know what I mean? That 'big' moment might arrive one day and I'll still feel like it'll be a waste but who knows haha.

Where do you find stage clothes? Any fav shops?

jyoty
I'm all about either vintage finds (started off as second hand/thrifting in my teens and then as I got older an obsession with finding bits from the 90s from specific designers such as Versace and Moschino - oh and I collect Coogi and Prada America's Cup - the og model, not the new ones) or independent designers. I love scrolling through social media to find new designers who have very significant looks. You know when you see a bright coloured knit bodycon dress and go 'ahh that's from AGR'. I'm all about that! I guess in a way the two have that in common: you immediately know what you're looking at because of a pattern or cut.

Where does your sense of style come from? Any special sources of inspiration?

jyoty
Oh.. because I don't have a particular style identity, my inspiration comes from everywhere. Anything I see out in the clubs, on the streets, on my screen and on the runway. Majority definitely at clubs though, the dance floor has raised me in every single aspect of my life, including the way I dress. I love it all, from the dolls to the dr*g dealers: I guess my looks are a combination of both. My only real rule is as long as it makes me feel good and comfortable. I'm 33 now so I don't really care for trends but I just want to feel good cause I know that's what makes me look good. I guess that's why I also tend to shy away from a lot of looks while I DJ because I dance too much and sweat waaayy too much. So I can look at an outfit and think 'hmm yeah that's cool for a non-working event, cause there's no way that's not riding up my *ss while I'm on the decks". You know what I mean? You know what I mean.
