What have you been wearing on stage? Anything new you've been liking?

Jess: It has been fun exploring our style on stage. It’s always interesting when there are 2 people because we naturally have very different styles, so merging them into a cohesive thing takes some finessing. Lately, I’ve been very inspired by vintage corsets and pairing them with a baggy pant, weird boot or sneaker. I’m very much into the sort of Euro style of putting a sneaker with everything. Plus it makes it much easier to perform in. I love knits. Like very delicate knitted things that have holes or have been reconstructed with different embroidery/additions. Also been loving super layered skirts and vintage cheerleader skirts.

Pat: I’ve been loving vests lately. I probably bought 6 vests when we played in England and Amsterdam. Jess also has a special gift for bin diving at good will. So sometimes I just tell her to go ham and so some of my recent looks include women’s blouses or tops. First time I wore something like that it felt refreshing because of the different kind of cut and pattern. Like random shoulder pads. I recently have been exploring more fitted 70s style pants with boots. I’ve never been a boot guy before. Boots are tight.

Do you collaborate with anyone? A stylist? A friend?

Jess: We have in the past, but mainly do it ourselves now. There’s a couple local designers that we met at the Silverlake flea that we wore for our last tour. This one guy would screen print on lingerie. I wore that for the Hayley Kiyoko tour.

Do you make any special pieces?

ill peach
Jess: I have made pieces for past tours. I wouldn’t say I’m the most insane seamstress/designer. But I love a very deconstructed look. And often find pieces where I rip them up, add to them, tailor them more to my body. I try to do this for some of Pat’s pieces also. I’ll add embroidery etc. Truly I need to do it more, but it is time consuming.

Where do you find stage clothes? Any fav shops?

ill peach
Jess: We both love thrifting and get inspired by new pieces we find all the time. I’m absolutely obsessed with Goodwill Bins. I have the most insane luck there. Between Goodwill Bins and Wasteland, that’s where I get most of my stage clothes. If I need a basic, you can never go wrong with Zara.

Pat: I find a lot of cool things at Wasteland or the Pasadena flea or Silverlake flea. It’s very hit or miss but for a period of time it felt like LA’s style was very focused on vintage 60/70s period of time. Not sure if it’s just the influx of newcomers from NY (we lived there, obviously it’s a city known for it’s style), but it’s been fun to see some of that more grungy, darker energy shift in the style of clothes at these places.

Where does your sense of style come from? Any special sources of inspiration?

ill peach
Jess: I think what I’m drawn to is always changing. I really just enjoy the treasure hunt of unique pieces. I overturn my closet a lot. Truly feel like I don’t live within one thing too long. I love Pinterest and have a pretty curated mood board, where I derive a lot of inspiration from. Been really inspired by Maison Margiela. The avant garde side of their collections really offers this other-worldly, non-perfectionist, deconstructed look that really speaks to me.

Pat: The first CD I ever bought was Jamiroquai ‘Traveling without moving’ and obviously Virtual Insanity is the greatest music video of all time and that look burned into my brain since I was a kid so I find myself drawn to what I call the British soccer look. At least that’s what I called it when I was a kid. Adidas or Fifa track jackets and Adidas samba shoes. I’m also into Cocteau Twins and Trainspotting. There’s something about that dark depressive Scottish look that I connect to oddly on stage.
